Noosciocircus agent backgrounds, former jobs at C&A, assigned roles, and current internal status.
Kinger
Former professor — Studied child psychology and computer science, moved into neobotanics via germination theory and seedlet development.
Seedlet trainer — Socialized and educated newly germinated seedlets to suit their future assignments. I.e. worked alongside a small team to serve as seedlets’ social parents, K-12 instructors, and upper-education mentors in rapid succession (about a year).
Intermediary — Inserted to assist cooperation and understanding of Caine.
Partially mentally mulekicked — Lives in state of forgetfulness after abstraction of spouse, is prone to reliving past from prior to event.
Ragatha
Former EMT — Worked in a rural community.
Semiohazard medic — Underwent training to treat and assess mulekick victims and to administer care in the presence of semiohazards.
Nootic health supervisor— Inserted to provide nootic endurance training, treat psychological mulekick, and maintain morale.
Obsessive-compulsive — Receives new agents and struggles to maintain morale among team and herself due to low trust in her honesty.
Jax
Former programmer — Gained experience when acquired out of university by a large software company.
Scioner — Developed virtual interfaces for seedlets to operate machinery with.
Circus surveyor — Inserted to assess and map nature of circus simulation, potentially finding avenues of escape.
Anomic — Detached from morals and social stake. Uncooperative and gleefully combative.
Gangle
Former navy sailor — Performed clerical work as a yeoman, served in one of the first semiotically-armed submarines.
Personnel manager — Recordkept C&A researcher employments and managed mess hall.
Task coordinator — Inserted to organize team effort towards escape.
Reclused — Abandoned task and lives in quiet, depressive state.
Zooble
No formal background — Onboarded out of secondary school for certification by C&A as part of a youth outreach initiative.
Mule trainer — Physically handled mules, living semiohazard conveyors for tactical use.
Semiohazard specialist — Inserted to identify, evaluate, and attempt to disarm semiotic tripwires.
Debilitated and self-isolating — Suffers chronic vertigo from randomly pulled avatar. Struggles to participate in adventures at risk of episode.
Pomni
Former accountant — Worked for a chemical research firm before completing her accreditation to become a biochemist.
Collochemist — Performed mesh checkups and oversaw industrial hormone synthesis.
Field researcher — Inserted to collect data from fellows and organize reports for indeterminate recovery. Versed in scientific conduct.
In shock — Currently acclimating to new condition. Fresh and overwhelming preoccupation with escape.
Caine
Neglected — Due to project deadline tightening, Caine’s socialization was expedited in favor of lessons pertinent to his practical purpose. Emerged a well-meaning but awkward and insecure individual unprepared for noosciocircus entrapment.
Prototype — Germinated as an experimental mustard, or semiotic filter seedlet, capable of subconsciously assembling semiohazards and detonating them in controlled conditions.
Nooscioarchitect — Constructs spaces and nonsophont AI for the agents to occupy and interact with using his asset library and computation power. Organizes adventures to mentally stimulate the agents, unknowingly lacing them with hazards.
Helpless — After semiohazard overexposure, an agent’s attachment to their avatar dissolves and their blackroom exposes, a process called abstraction. These open holes in the noosciocircus simulation spill potentially hazardous memories and emotion from the abstracted agent’s mind. Caine stores them in the cellar, a stimulus-free and infoproofed zone that calms the abstracted and nullifies emitted hazards. He genuinely cares about the inserted, but after only being able to do damage control for a continually deteriorating situation, the weight of his failure is beginning to weigh on him in a way he did not get to learn how to express.

The Natural History Museum in London has announced a major programme of transformation it says will mark “a step-change from being a catalogue of natural history to a catalyst for change” in response to the climate emergency.
The scheme to renovate the museum’s celebrated Victorian building and develop a new research and storage facility will build on its aim to turn visitors into “advocates for the planet"
Four existing galleries will be overhauled, including its enormously popular dinosaur gallery, while the museum plans to reopen two long-closed exhibition spaces, one of which, the Old General Herbarium, has not been accessible to the public since 1948.
One of them will house a new permanent exhibition that the museum’s director, Doug Gurr, said would include the most explicit climate messaging it had ever offered. The exhibition, Fixing Our Broken Planet, will have the express aim of “nudging” visitors to change their behaviour, he said.
The new exhibition spaces will be freed up by the creation of a purpose-built storage, research and digitisation centre at Thames Valley Science Park near Reading, to which more than a third of the museum’s enormous natural history collection will be moved from its “unsuitable, unsustainable” current home.
The museum said this was “so we can take better care of it and more easily share its data with scientists all over the world who are finding solutions to problems like climate change, biodiversity loss and food security.”
Until recently, Gurr told the Guardian, the museum had seen itself as a “passive observer … our job was to collect, to conserve, to research, to display”.
“[Then] we stepped back a bit and said: ‘Well, hang on, if your subject matter is planet Earth and it’s under that much threat, you’ve got to do something about it. If you want the sporting analogy: how do you get off the sidelines and get on the pitch?”
In 2020 the museum declared a planetary emergency, and Gurr said the redevelopment was part of its continuing response. “The best contribution we can make is to create what we call ‘advocates for the planet’. And what that really means is: how do you inspire people at scale to care about nature and to care enough to want to do something about it?
“Of course, we still want people to have a brilliant, fun family day out. But if you can come out of that being a little bit more interested in nature and a little bit more aware of some of the challenges, you’re a bit more likely to want to do something about it.”
The overhaul of the South Kensington site is due to be completed in time for the museum’s 150th anniversary in 2031. The bulk of the funding will come from the government, which has already committed more than £200m to the new collections and research centre, while a further £155m will fund a museum-led programme to digitise natural science collections in the UK. In addition, the museum announced plans to raise £150m from philanthropic and commercial sponsors.
Gurr said the museum was happy to “talk to everybody” about potential sources of sponsorship but would not accept donations from firms it saw as unacceptable partners based on their climate record. “We are very, very clear that when we talk to [a potential sponsor], we’re going to look at the actual behaviour versus the statements,” he said.
Gurr said the museum had turned down “significant” sums in the past “where we just felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to accept at this point, because we’re acutely aware that you can’t go around asking people to change behaviour and save the planet if you’re then hypocritical in some of the gifts you accept”.
He would not be drawn on the position taken by other institutions such as the Science Museum and the British Museum, both of which have highly controversial funding relationships with energy firms, but he said: “It is factual that we have not accepted any funding from fossil fuel companies.”
The museum recently redeveloped its outdoor space into two new gardens focusing on evolution and biodiversity, and Gurr said it hoped to expand its education programme, encouraging schools to exploit their own outdoor space and enhance their climate and nature teaching.

Business as an undergraduate degree
I'm a double major student doing both Chinese and Business, but I rarely if ever post about the business side of my degree so I decided to share my experience which could be interesting or useful to anyone pondering doing a business related degree.
An undergrad "business" degree comes in various forms. There's the usual Business Studies/Management/Administration, but there are also more specialized degrees such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance which can be taken with business e.g. Business and Finance BA, or just on their own e.g. BSc Accounting. There are also other non-business combos such as law, languages, science subjects and even medicine.
A business course usually covers a wide range of modules relating to business so you can pick different units e.g. accounting, investing, coporate finance, spanish business, business law modules, which can give you a more rounded background.
However, the fact that it doesn't exactly focus on just one area can make it too broad and general, which in terms of future career perspectives is concerning. That's why many of my coursemates have a dual degree or a specialization as while a general business degree does cover a lot, it still remains too general e.g. Business and Economics, or Business and Finance. Then again, some accounting students are concerned that the market is too saturated and that the use of AI may affect their future career prospects, so who even knows how things will play out?
Focusing on developing specific hard skills such as SQL, SEO, securing internships and gaining experience, taking extra courses or projects to showcase your skills is something a lot of my peers do and not just within my business cohort. Currently a lot of firms place a heavy emphasis on experience (the "entry" level jobs for grads asking for 2-5 years of experience are just maddening), so you can have first years scrambling for internships and applying and networking from day 1.
Quite a lot of my coursemates are planning on doing a masters in a more specialized area e.g. Marketing, Finance, Data Analysis to become more specialized immediately after graduation but honestly? I am all for further education and continously learning and developing yourself, but the fact that many degrees just aren't sufficient or competitive enough for an entry-level job anymore is genuinely concerning.
The takeaway? If you're going to study business, then I recommend doing a dual degree or Business plus a specialization. My personal experience is limited to europe, but having a solid amount of skills in general, is a good thing.

Kashmir Hill’s “Your Face Belongs to Us”
Tumblr media
This Friday (September 22), I'm (virtually) presenting at the DIG Festival in Modena, Italy. That night, I'll be in person at LA's Book Soup for the launch of Justin C Key's "The World Wasn’t Ready for You." On September 27, I'll be at Chevalier's Books in Los Angeles with Brian Merchant for a joint launch for my new book The Internet Con and his new book, Blood in the Machine.
Tumblr media
Your Face Belongs To Us is Kashmir Hill's new tell-all history of Clearview AI, the creepy facial recognition company whose origins are mired in far-right politics, off-the-books police misconduct, sales to authoritarian states and sleazy one-percenter one-upmanship:
https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/691288/your-face-belongs-to-us-by-kashmir-hill/
Hill is a fitting chronicler here. Clearview first rose to prominence – or, rather, notoriety – with the publication of her 2020 expose on the company, which had scraped more than a billion facial images from the web, and then started secretly marketing a search engine for faces to cops, spooks, private security firms, and, eventually, repressive governments:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/18/technology/clearview-privacy-facial-recognition.html
Hill's original blockbuster expose was followed by an in-depth magazine feature and then a string more articles, which revealed the company's origins in white nationalist movements, and the mercurial jourey of its founder, Hoan Ton-That:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/03/18/magazine/facial-recognition-clearview-ai.html
The story of Clearview's technology is an interesting one, a story about the machine learning gold-rush where modestly talented technologists who could lay hands on sufficient data could throw it together with off-the-shelf algorithms and do things that had previously been considered impossible. While Clearview has plenty of competitors today, as recently as a couple of years ago, it played like a magic trick.
That's where the more interesting story of Clearview's founding comes in. Hill is a meticulous researcher and had the benefit of a disaffected – and excommunicated – Clearview co-founder, who provided her with masses of internal communications. She also benefited from the court documents from the flurry of lawsuits that Clearview prompted.
What emerges from these primary sources – including multiple interviews with Ton-That – is a story about a move-fast-and-break-things company at the tail end of the forgiveness-not-permission era of technological development. Clearview's founders are violating laws and norms, they're short on cash, and they're racing across the river on the backs of alligators, hoping to reach the riches on the opposite bank without losing a leg.
A decade ago, they might have played as heroes. Today, they're just grifters – bullshitters faking it until they make it, lying to Hill (and getting caught out), and the rest of us. The founders themselves are erratic weirdos, and not the fun kind of weirdos, either. Ton-That – who emigrated to Silicon Valley from Australia as a teenager, seeking a techie's fortune – comes across as a bro-addled dimbulb who threw his lot in with white nationalists, MAGA Republicans, Rudy Guiliani bagmen, Peter Theil, and assorted other tech-adjascent goblins.
Meanwhile, biometrics generally – and facial recognition specifically – is a discipline with a long and sordid history, inextricably entwined with phrenology and eugenics, as Hill describes in a series of interstitial chapters that recount historical attempts to indentify the facial features that correspond with criminality and low intelligence.
These interstitials are woven into a-ha moments from Clearview's history, in which various investors, employees, hangers-on, competitors and customers speculate about how a facial-recognition system could eventually not just recognize criminals, but predict criminality. It's a potent reminder of the AI industry's many overlaps with "race-science" and other quack beliefs.
Hill also describes how Clearview and its competitors' recklessness and arrogance created the openings for shrewd civil libertarians to secure bipartisan support for biometric privacy laws, most notably Illinois' best-of-breed Biometric Information Privacy Act:
https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=3004&ChapterID=57
But by the end of the book, Hill makes the case that Ton-That and his competitors have gotten away with it. Facial recognition is now so easy to build that – she says – we're unlikely to abolish it, despite all the many horrifying ways that FR could fuck up our societies. It's a sobering conclusion, and while Hill holds out some hope for curbing the official use of FR, she seems resigned to a future in which – for example – creepy guys covertly snap photos of women on the street, use those pictures to figure out their names and addresses, and then stalk and harass them.
If she's right, this is Ton-That's true legacy, and the legacy of the funders who handed him millions to spend building this. Perhaps someone else would have stepped into that sweaty, reckless-grifter-shaped hole if Ton-That hadn't been there to fill it, but in our timeline, we can say that Ton-That was the bumbler who helped destroy something precious.

Aaron Siri, Esq. is a vaccine and civil rights attorney and the Managing Partner of the law firm Siri & Glimstad who have offices across the USA. Aaron earned his law degree at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law where he received four Prosser Prizes and ten High Honors – REF
Following a screening of the movie Vaxxed in 2016, Aaron insisted on meeting personally with Del Bigtree to discuss working together. Del’s non-profit the Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) an activist, litigious and fundraising organisation instructs Siri & Glimstad to, amongst other things, submit Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to government health agencies such as the FDA, CDC, HHS & NIH to seek the evidence to prove claims made by these “trusted” government bodies regarding vaccine safety and policy.
As of December 2022 Siri & Glimstad had over 20 individuals in the law firm that exculsively work on vaccine related matters.
In case you are not aware, vaccine manufactures are the only product developer who can’t be sue for damages caused by their products, and there is no trial process to access discovery. All liability and accountability rests with the government, the very entity that promotes the products and ensures they are “safe and effective”!
Suing the government for evidence
Since 2018 Siri & Glimstad, on ICAN’s behalf, have been submitting FOIA requests to US government agencies, they too often do not comply, so Aaron and his team then sues the government in order to obtain the public record documents sort. When ICAN win’s lawsuits, this means the court has ruled that the government agency has to turn over the FOIA documents/data requested. Too often this process reveals that the govenment agency has no evidence to support their public claims, or appear to be hiding evidence of harm.
“A search of our records failed to reveal any documents pertaining to your request” is too often the reply following court action such as HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE etc.
The FOIA process can take up to 3 years or more – seemingly delay-tactics by the government who clearly knows they don’t have the evidence to back up their bold claims! The public trust that these health agencies are doing their job to protect the public, and have the evidence to back their claims. ICAN via Siri & Glimstad are revealing, time and time again, that public health make claims on “hope” not science based data.
During the COVID-19 pandemic Aaron and his team have lead many lawsuits pertaining to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, seeking Pfizer documents from the FDA, and following up on all things deemed “misinformation” and more. The work continues today – building an “informed choice” public record.
“Vaccine” depositions
Aaron knew next to nothing about immunology and vaccines when he started out, but through devours text books he gained a basic understanding for when he deposes long-standing vaccine experts like Dr Stanley Plotkin (2018) and Dr Katherine Edwards (2022). Depositions that YouTube deleted!
This page contains interviews and articles that provide little-known insight into the litigious aspects of vaccines in the US (which affects the entire world) – insights that the medical community have not been aware of…but the COVID response is waking people up to the public-private vaccine industry house-of-cards!

job opportunities in chennai for freshers - Career.contact
Job Opportunities in Chennai for Freshers
Finishing college and stepping into the job market is a big milestone. It’s exciting, confusing, and sometimes overwhelming. One of the first big decisions is choosing where to start your career. If you’re considering Chennai, you’re already heading in a smart direction.
Chennai is among India's most vibrant cities in terms of job prospects. It has a robust industry complemented by an emerging technology and services economy. For newcomers, that translates to choices — many of them — cutting across industries and job types.
Tumblr media
A Strong Tech and IT Presence
When one hears about jobs in Chennai, IT is the first thing that comes to mind. And rightly so. The city has some of the big IT parks, particularly along OMR and Guindy. Freshers with a computer science, information technology, or even electronics and communication background can get jobs in software development, testing, support, and so on.
Startups are also gaining momentum, so you can even venture into product-based firms that seek young minds with fresh ideas.
Core Engineering Jobs
If you belong to a mechanical, civil, or electrical background, Chennai has something concrete to offer. Dubbed the "Detroit of India," it's a hub for the automobile and manufacturing sector. Several plants, both local and multinational, have units in and around the city.
Freshers can apply for entry-level positions in design, production, maintenance, and quality control. These positions tend to provide hands-on experience, which can be a major advantage early in your career.
BPO and Customer Support Positions
Chennai is also well-represented in the BPO and customer service industries. These careers are available to graduates with backgrounds in a broad spectrum of schools — and to many, they're the bridge to the corporate world.
They get you used to hard work, verbal communication, and timely work — all essential no matter what career path you later end up in.
Finance, Admin & Operations
Commerce and business graduates will find many opportunities in Chennai’s finance and corporate services sector. Banks, consultancies, and backend offices of large firms are always on the lookout for fresh talent to fill roles in accounting, data processing, admin support, and more.
These positions can serve as the groundwork for building a career in finance, business analysis, or management over time.
Media, Content, and Digital Careers
The creative ecosystem in Chennai has been steadily developing over the past couple of years. Digital marketing agencies, content studios, YouTube channels, and design companies are always on the lookout for new content creators, social media managers, video editors, and graphic designers.
If you're a fresher with good creative skills, a good portfolio, or even just an active blog or Instagram account — you may already possess what it takes to begin.
Education and EdTech
With its high-learning environment, Chennai is also an ideal location to begin a career in teaching or education services. EdTech websites, schools, and training schools recruit freshers as tutors, content writers, coordinators, or counselors.
If you are interested in teaching or student services, this is an area worth pursuing — given the success of online learning.
Conclusion
Beginning a career is seldom easy, but the right city can ease the process. Chennai has plenty of job opportunities for freshers — whether you're an engineering graduate, a business school graduate, or a creative mind.
The city boasts a friendly work environment, a comparatively lower living cost than other metros, and a combination of old and new industries. Your initial job may not be ideal — and that's alright. What counts is to start, and learn as much as you can on your way up.
If you remain open, flexible, and willing to learn, Chennai can prove to be a wonderful place to establish the building blocks of a successful career.

NASA's Pandora mission one step closer to probing alien atmospheres
Completion of the spacecraft bus brings Pandora, a mission poised to look for the presence of hazes, clouds and water in exoplanets, closer to launch.
Pandora, NASA's newest exoplanet mission, is one step closer to launch with the completion of the spacecraft bus, which provides the structure, power and other systems that will allow the mission to carry out its work. Pandora's exoplanet science working group is led by the University of Arizona, and Pandora will be the first mission to have its operations center at the U of A Space Institute.
The completion of the bus was announced during a press briefing at the 245th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society in National Harbor, Maryland, on Jan. 16.
"This is a huge milestone for us and keeps us on track for a launch in the fall," said Elisa Quintana, Pandora's principal investigator at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. "The bus holds our instruments and handles navigation, data acquisition and communication with Earth – it's the brains of the spacecraft."
Pandora is a small satellite poised to provide in-depth study of at least 20 known planets orbiting distant stars to determine the composition of their atmospheres – especially the presence of hazes, clouds and water. The data will establish a firm foundation for interpreting measurements by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and future missions aimed at searching for habitable worlds.
"Although smaller and less sensitive than Webb, Pandora will be able to stare longer at the host stars of extrasolar planets, allowing for deeper study," said Pandora co-investigator Daniel Apai, professor of astronomy and planetary sciences at the U of A Steward Observatory and Lunar and Planetary Laboratory who leads the mission's Exoplanets Science Working Group. "Better understanding of the stars will help Pandora and its 'big brother,' the James Webb Space Telescope, disentangle signals from stars and their planets."
Astronomers can sample an exoplanet's atmosphere when it passes in front of its star as seen from Earth's perspective, during an event known as a transit. Part of the star's light skims the planet's atmosphere before making its way to the observer. This interaction allows the light to interact with atmospheric substances, and their chemical fingerprints — dips in brightness at characteristic wavelengths — become imprinted in the light.
The concept of Pandora was born out of necessity to overcome a snag in observing starlight passing through the atmospheres of exoplanets, Apai said.
"In 2018, a doctoral student in my group, Benjamin Rackham – now an MIT research scientist – described an astrophysical effect by which light coming directly from the star muddies the signal of the light passing through the exoplanet's atmosphere," Apai explained. "We predicted that this effect would limit Webb's ability to study habitable planets."
Telescopes see light from the entire star, not just the small amount grazing the planet. Stellar surfaces aren't uniform. They sport hotter, unusually bright regions called faculae and cooler, darker regions similar to the spots on our sun, both of which grow, shrink and change position as the star rotates. As a result, these "mixed signals" in the observed light can make it difficult to distinguish between light that has passed through an exoplanet's atmosphere and light that varies based on a star's changing appearance. For example, variations in light from the host star can mask or mimic the signal of water, a likely key ingredient researchers look for when evaluating an exoplanet's potential for harboring life.
Using a novel all-aluminum, 45-centimeter-wide telescope, jointly developed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Corning Specialty Materials in Keene, New Hampshire, Pandora's detectors will capture each star's visible brightness and near-infrared spectrum at the same time, while also obtaining the transiting planet's near-infrared spectrum. This combined data will enable the science team to determine the properties of stellar surfaces and cleanly separate star and planetary signals.
The observing strategy takes advantage of the mission's ability to continuously observe its targets for extended periods, something flagship observatories like Webb, which offer limited observing time due to high demand, cannot regularly do.
Over the course of its yearlong mission, Pandora will observe at least 20 exoplanets 10 times, with each stare lasting a total of 24 hours. Each observation will include a transit, which is when the mission will capture the planet's spectrum.
Karl Harshman, who leads the Mission Operations Team at the U of A Space Institute that will support the spacecraft's operation once it launches later this year, said: "We have a very excited team that has been working hard to have our Mission Operations Center running at full speed at the time of launch and look forward to receiving science data. Just this week, we performed a communications test with our antenna system that will transmit commands to Pandora and receive the telemetry from the spacecraft."
Pandora is led by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory provides the mission's project management and engineering. Pandora's telescope was manufactured by Corning and developed collaboratively with Livermore, which also developed the imaging detector assemblies, the mission's control electronics, and all supporting thermal and mechanical subsystems. The infrared sensor was provided by NASA Goddard. Blue Canyon Technologies provided the bus and is performing spacecraft assembly, integration and environmental testing. NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley will perform the mission's data processing. Pandora's mission operations center is located at the University of Arizona, and a host of additional universities support the science team.

A high-profile network of investors and founders in Silicon Valley are promoting a new moral vision for the tech industry, in which job choices and other decisions are guided not by the pursuit of wealth, but according to Christian values and Western cultural frameworks.
At an event in San Francisco last week hosted in a former church, Trae Stephens, cofounder of the defense contractor Anduril and a partner at the Peter Thiel–led venture capital firm Founders Fund, characterized the idea as the pursuit of “good quests” or careers that make the future better, a concept that he said has theological underpinnings.
“I’m literally an arms dealer,” Stephens said at one point, prompting laughter from the crowd of roughly 200 people, which included Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan. “I don’t think all of you should be arms dealers, but that’s a pretty unique calling.”
The hour-long discussion was part of a series of ticketed gatherings organized by ACTS 17 Collective, a nonprofit founded last year by Stephens’ wife, health care startup executive Michelle Stephens. The group, whose name is an acronym that stands for “Acknowledging Christ in Technology and Society,” is on a mission to “redefine success for those that define culture,” she says.
In Michelle's view, tech workers mostly believe in arbitrary metrics of success, like money and power, leaving some of them feeling empty and hopeless. She wants them to believe instead that “success can be defined as loving God, myself, and others.”
People of all denominations—including atheists—are welcome at ACTS 17 events. Last Thursday’s event had low-key party vibes. Bartenders served beer and wine, a DJ was spinning light worship beats, and prayer booklets rested on a table. The idea for ACTS 17 and a speaker series on faith actually took root at a party, Michelle says. In November 2023, during a three-day 40th birthday party for Trae in New Mexico, Peter Thiel led a talk on miracles and forgiveness. Guests were intrigued.
“Folks were coming up to us saying things like, ‘I didn’t know Peter is a Christian,’ ‘How can you be gay and a billionaire and be Christian?’, ‘I didn’t know you could be smart and a Christian,’ and ‘What can you give me to read or listen to learn more?’” Michelle says.
The Stephens have long-standing connections to Thiel. In addition to helping start Anduril and working at Founders Fund, Trae was also an early employee at data intelligence firm Palantir, a company cofounded by Thiel that develops tools used by the US military.
At the ACTS 17 last Thursday, Trae appeared to echo a number of ideas Thiel has also espoused about technology and Christianity. He emphasized that jobs outside the church can be sacred, citing Martin Luther’s work during the Protestant Reformation. “The roles that we’re called into are not only important and valuable on a personal level, but it’s also critical to carry out God’s command to bring his kingdom to Earth as it is in heaven,” Trae said.
Thiel made nearly identical comments in a 2015 essay arguing that technological progress should be accelerated. Science and technology, he wrote, are natural allies of “Judeo-Western optimism,” especially if “we remain open to an eschatological frame in which God works through us in building the kingdom of heaven today, here on Earth.”
But what do Thiel, Trae Stephens, and other powerful tech figures actually mean when they say it’s possible to build a Christian heaven on this planet? For Trae, the idea is practically literal, and happens through his concept of “good quests,” first outlined in an article cowritten with entrepreneur Markie Wagner in 2022.
In the article, Trae and Wagner argued that Silicon Valley was in a “crisis of nonsense.” Pastimes such as “exiting your first startup only to enter venture capital,” “armchair philosophizing on Twitter,” and “yachting between emails in de facto retirement at age 35” are examples of bad quests. Good quests, on the other hand, tackle massively hard and complex problems, and result in advancements in manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and the extension of human lifespans.
After the essay came out, Trae said a man approached him and shared that he was trying to solve an important problem by building an NFT marketplace. That right there, Trae told the audience at the ACTS 17 event, is an example of a bad quest. “The human brain can convince you anything you’re doing is a good quest,” he said.
Trae, who ran President Donald Trump’s defense transition team during his first term, used the same good versus bad quests frame to explain why he recently turned down the opportunity to serve as US defense secretary. Very few things in life should be able to take you away from your “yes,” or your good quest, Trae explained. “I think the reason for my ‘no’ was understanding what my ‘yes’ was,” he said.
Alex Karp, the chief executive of Palantir, recently criticized what he similarly described as a moral crisis in the tech industry, decrying the fact that ample capital and “legions of talented engineers” were wasted “merely to build photo-sharing apps and chat interfaces for the modern consumer.” Karp went on to say that the “prevailing agnosticism” of the modern era has “paved the way for the market to fill the gap.”
The agnosticism Karp refers to is cultural, rather than spiritual. But like Trae Stephens, he believes the tech sector has been too focused on solving trivial problems and ignoring the most pressing issues of society. The problem, Karp argued, could be solved by rebuilding the United States from the ground up as a technological republic. (Presumably, that would include Palantir selling its technology to the government.)
The Bay Area, where Silicon Valley is nested, has long been a haven for progressive values and is often perceived to be largely agnostic or atheistic. Its prevailing rich-hippie vibes are well documented, with tech workers turning to biohacking, psychedelics, Burning Man, and Esalen retreats as forms of introspection and self-discovery.
Those pastimes aren’t likely to wane in popularity anytime soon, but for some people, the ACTS 17 Collective presents an alternative community, one combining tech startup culture with fervent faith.
“I’ve worked in Silicon Valley since 2005, and my initial impression was that it was anti-Valley to talk about religion and belief systems,” Nate Williams, a startup entrepreneur and investor who attended the event last week, told WIRED afterward. “But now it’s becoming more normalized to wear it on your sleeve,” he says, a trend he attributes partly to people seeking community after the pandemic.
At some moments during the event, the twin themes of work and religion were so commingled that it was hard to make a distinction between the two: Is work the new religion, as it has been and ever shall be in Silicon Valley? Or does religion offer a different framework for how people should think about what constitutes meaningful work?
“When you get into the startup world—there are some things in life you can be casual about, but probably work is not something you can be casual about and have success, do you agree?” Ben Pilgreen, founding pastor of the nondenominational Christian Epic Church in San Francisco and the Stephens’ pastor, said to the crowd. “The themes raised tonight don’t seem to be something you can be casual about.” (Epic Church’s attendance has been steadily rising over the past several months, Pilgreen said in a recent interview with the SF Standard.)
After the talk, attendees swarmed the Stephens couple, thanking them for the discussion and asking questions about future events. One attendee told WIRED he’s now interested in visiting Pilgreen’s Epic Church and attending its dinner series, which, like the house of worship, has a startup-worthy name: Alpha.

Dell AI PCs: A Gateway To AI For Life Sciences Organizations
Tumblr media
AI in the Life Sciences: A Useful Method Using Computers.
For life sciences companies wishing to experiment with AI before making a full commitment, Dell AI PCs are perfect. The Dell AI PCs are revolutionary way to get started in the vast field of artificial intelligence, particularly for clients in the life sciences who are searching for a cost-effective way to create intricate processes.
The Dell AI PCs, GPU-enhanced servers, and cutting-edge storage solutions are essential to the AI revolution. If you approach the process strategically, it may be surprisingly easy to begin your AI journey.
Navigating the Unmarked Path of AI Transformation
The lack of a clear path is both an exciting and difficult part of the AI transition in the medical sciences. As it learn more about the actual effects of generative and extractive AI models on crucial domains like drug development, clinical trials, and industrial processes, the discipline continues to realize its enormous promise.
It is evident from discussions with both up-and-coming entrepreneurs and seasoned industry titans in the global life sciences sector that there are a variety of approaches to launching novel treatments, each with a distinct implementation strategy.
A well-thought-out AI strategy may help any firm, especially if it prioritizes improving operational efficiency, addressing regulatory expectations from organizations like the FDA and EMA, and speeding up discovery.
Cataloguing possible use cases and setting clear priorities are usually the initial steps. But according to a client, after just two months of appointing a new head of AI, they were confronted with more than 200 “prioritized” use cases.
When the CFO always inquires about the return on investment (ROI) for each one, this poses a serious problem. The answer must show observable increases in operational effectiveness, distinct income streams, or improved compliance clarity. A pragmatic strategy to evaluating AI models and confirming their worth is necessary for large-scale AI deployment in order to guarantee that the investment produces quantifiable returns.
The Dell AI PC: Your Strategic Advantage
Presenting the Dell AI PCs, the perfect option for businesses wishing to experiment with AI before committing to hundreds of use cases. AI PCs and robust open-source software allow resources in any department to investigate and improve use cases without incurring large costs.
Each possible AI project is made clearer by beginning with a limited number of Dell AI PCs and allocating skilled resources to these endeavors. Trials on smaller datasets provide a low-risk introduction to the field of artificial intelligence and aid in the prediction of possible results. This method guarantees that investments are focused on the most promising paths while also offering insightful information about what works.
Building a Sustainable AI Framework
Internally classifying and prioritizing use cases is essential when starting this AI journey. Pay close attention to data kinds, availability, preferences for production vs consumption, and choices for the sale or retention of results. Although the process may be started by IT departments, using IT-savvy individuals from other departments to develop AI models may be very helpful since they have personal experience with the difficulties and data complexities involved.
As a team, it is possible to rapidly discover areas worth more effort by regularly assessing and prioritizing use case development, turning conjecture into assurance. The team can now confidently deliver data-driven findings that demonstrate the observable advantages of your AI activities when the CFO asks about ROI.
The Rational Path to AI Investment
Investing in AI is essential, but these choices should be based on location, cost, and the final outcomes of your research. Organizations may make logical decisions about data center or hyperscaler hosting, resource allocation, and data ownership by using AI PCs for early development.
This goes beyond only being a theoretical framework. This strategy works, as shown by Northwestern Medicine’s organic success story. It have effectively used AI technology to improve patient care and expedite intricate operations, illustrating the practical advantages of using AI strategically.

Big Data and AI: The Perfect Partnership for Future Innovations
Tumblr media
Innovation allows organizations to excel at differentiation, boosting competitive advantages. Amid the growth of industry-disrupting technologies, big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) professionals want to support brands seeking bold design, delivery, and functionality ideas. This post discusses the importance of big data and AI, explaining why they matter to future innovations and business development.
Understanding Big Data and AI
Big data is a vast data volume, and you will find mixed data structures because of continuous data collection involving multimedia data objects. A data object or asset can be a document, an audio track, a video clip, a photo, or identical objects with special file formats. Since big data services focus on sorting and exploring data objects’ attributes at an unprecedented scale, integrating AI tools is essential.
Artificial intelligence helps computers simulate human-like thinking and idea synthesis capabilities. Most AI ecosystems leverage advanced statistical methods and machine learning models. Their developers train the AI tools to develop and document high-quality insights by processing unstructured and semi-structured data objects.
As a result, the scope of big data broadens if you add AI integrations that can determine data context. Businesses can generate new ideas instead of recombining recorded data or automatically filter data via AI-assisted quality assurances.
Why Are Big Data and AI Perfect for Future Innovations?
1| They Accelerate Scientific Studies
Material sciences, green technology projects, and rare disorder research projects have provided humans with exceptional lifestyle improvements. However, as markets mature, commoditization becomes inevitable.
At the same time, new, untested ideas can fail, attracting regulators’ dismay, disrespecting consumers’ beliefs, or hurting the environment. Additionally, bold ideas must not alienate consumers due to inherent complexity. Therefore, private sector stakeholders must employ scientific methods to identify feasible, sustainable, and consumer-friendly product ideas for brand differentiation.
AI-powered platforms and business analytics solutions help global corporations immediately acquire, filter, and document data assets for independent research projects. For instance, a pharmaceutical firm can use them during clinical drug formulations and trials, while a car manufacturer might discover efficient production tactics using AI and big data.
2| Brands Can Objectively Evaluate Forward-Thinking Business Ideas
Some business ideas that a few people thought were laughable or unrealistic a few decades ago have forced many brands and professionals to abandon conventional strategies. Consider how streaming platforms’ founders affected theatrical film releases. They have reduced the importance of box office revenues while increasing independent artists’ discoverability.
Likewise, exploring real estate investment opportunities on a tiny mobile or ordering clothes online were bizarre practices, according to many non-believers. They also predicted socializing through virtual reality (VR) avatars inside a computer-generated three-dimensional space would attract only the tech-savvy young adults.
Today, customers and investors who underestimated those innovations prefer religiously studying how disrupting startups perform. Brands care less about losing money than missing an opportunity to be a first mover for a niche consumer base. Similarly, rejecting an idea without testing it at least a few times has become a taboo.
Nobody can be 100% sure which innovation will gain global momentum, but AI and big data might provide relevant hints. These technologies are best for conducting unlimited scenario analyses and testing ideas likely to satisfy tomorrow’s customer expectations.
3| AI-Assisted Insight Explorations Gamifies Idea Synthesis
Combining a few ideas is easy but finding meaningful and profitable ideas by sorting the best ones is daunting. Innovative individuals must embrace AI recommendations to reduce time spent on brainstorming, product repurposing, and multidisciplinary collaborations. Furthermore, they can challenge themselves to find ideas better than an AI tool.
Gamification of brainstorming will facilitate a healthy pursuit of novel product features, marketing strategies, and customer journey personalization. Additionally, incentivizing employees to leverage AI and big data to experiment with designing methods provides unique insights for future innovations.
4| You Can Optimize Supply Chain Components with Big Data and AI Programs
AI can capture extensive data on supply chains and offer suggestions on alternative supplier relations. Therefore, businesses will revise supply and delivery planning to overcome the flaws in current practices.
For instance, Gartner awarded Beijing’s JD.com the Technology Innovation Award in 2024 because they combined statistical forecasting. The awardee has developed an explainable artificial intelligence to enhance its supply chain. Other finalists in this award category were Google, Cisco, MTN Group, and Allina Health.
5| Academia Can Embrace Adaptive Learning and Psychological Well-Being
Communication barriers and trying to force all learners to follow the standard course material based on a fixed schedule have undermined educational institutions’ goals worldwide. Understandably, expecting teachers to customize courses and multimedia assets for each student is impractical and humanly infeasible.
As a result, investors, policymakers, parents, and student bodies seek outcome-oriented educational innovations powered by AI and big data for a learner-friendly, inclusive future. For instance, some edtech providers use AI computer-aided learning and teaching ecosystems leveraging videoconferencing, curriculum personalization, and psycho-cognitive support.
Adaptive learning applications build student profiles and segments like marketers’ consumer categorizations. Their AI integrations can determine the ideal pace for teaching, whether a student exhibits learning disabilities, and whether a college or school has adequate resources.
Challenges in Promoting Innovations Based on Big Data and AI Use Cases
Encouraging stakeholders to acknowledge the need for big data and AI might be challenging. After all, uninformed stakeholders are likely to distrust tech-enabled lifestyle changes. Therefore, increasing AI awareness and educating everyone on data ethics are essential.
In some regions, the IT or network infrastructure necessary for big data is unavailable or prone to stability flaws. This issue requires more investments and talented data specialists to leverage AI tools or conduct predictive analyses.
Today’s legal frameworks lack provisions for regulating AI, big data, and scenario analytics. So, brands are unsure whether expanding data scope will get public administrators’ approvals. Lawmakers must find a balanced approach to enable AI-powered big data innovations without neglecting consumer rights or “privacy by design” principles.
Conclusion
The future of enterprise, institutional, and policy innovations lies in responsible technology implementations. Despite the obstacles, AI enthusiasts are optimistic that more stakeholders will admire the potential of new, disruptive technologies.
Remember, gamifying how your team finds new ideas or predicting the actual potential of a business model necessitates AI’s predictive insights. At the same time, big data will offer broader perspectives on global supply chains and how to optimize a company’s policies.
Lastly, academic improvements and scientific research are integral to developing sustainable products, accomplishing educational objectives, and responding to global crises. As a result, the informed stakeholders agree that AI and big data are perfect for shaping future innovations.
